Hi Everyone,

Thank you to all the women who took the time to complete the Whittlesea BUG Women in Cycling Survey - please see the results in the attached document.

Your insights, honesty, and enthusiasm have given us a clear and meaningful picture of what women in our community want and need to feel confident, connected, and supported on a bike.

Your responses highlighted several important themes:

Social, low‑pressure riding is what matters most. The majority of people who responded prefer leisurely, friendly rides—especially on bike paths and to interesting destinations.

A welcoming community makes all the difference. Feeling supported and not left behind was one of the strongest motivators for joining BUG rides.

Skills development is a priority. Many of you want opportunities to learn—whether it’s bike maintenance, beginner skills, or road‑riding confidence.

Life is busy, and time is a real barrier. Time constraints were the most common challenge, along with not yet knowing people in the group or feeling unsure about group riding.

Local access matters. Proximity to home is a key factor in deciding whether to join a ride.

Email and Team App are your preferred ways to stay informed.

Your feedback is already shaping the next stage of our Women in Cycling program, including more social rides, skills workshops, welcome rides for new participants, and more localised ride options across Whittlesea.

Most importantly, your voices are helping us build a cycling community where women feel seen, supported, and empowered to ride in ways that feel right for them.

Thank you again for contributing to this important work.

We’re excited and looking forward to riding with you soon.

Cheers,

Helen, Alison, Kim and Mara
